JNCT Holds an Awareness Session for the Private Sector about the International Competitiveness Reports

Under the Patronage of His Excellency Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh the Secretary General of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Jordan National Competitiveness Team (JNCT) held an awareness session for private sector executives in order to spread awareness about the global competitiveness reports on the 9th of February 2010.

The session that was supported by the USAID Jordan Economic Development Program (SABEQ), targeted business leaders who took part in evaluating the performance of Jordan’s economy with regard to multitude of competitiveness issues as well as sending an important message to government officials and media through participating in the surveys prepared by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Institute of Management Development (IMD).

The session encompassed a brief about JNCT presented by Dr. Maher Al-Mahrouq the director of the Policies and Studies Department within the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, where he explained the role which the team plays as the counter part for both the WEF and IMD contributing in the data collection as the ground work for issuing the yearly global competitiveness reports.

A presentation about WEF’s Global Competitiveness Report was delivered by Ms. Margareta Drzeniek Hanouz the director of Global Competitiveness Network/WEF.
Ms. Drzeniek Hanouz explained the importance of the 7 Global Competitiveness reports issued by the WEF as well as the methodology of those reports.

From her part Ms. Kawthar Al-Zubi from JNCT briefed the attendees about IMD’s Global Competitiveness Year Book and the methodology of calculating the rankings for this report. Ms. Al-Zubi also stressed the importance of the private sector’s contribution in both surveys as the main source of data.

“The main purpose of this session was to pave the way for a rewarding dialogue between the public and private sectors which aims to enhance the competitiveness of the national economy to achieve our shared goal of sustainable development” Dr. Maher Al-Mahrouq who facilitated the public – private discussion, stated.

JNCT is the sole partner institution in Jordan for the WEF and IMD regarding global competitiveness Reports. JNCT works closely with both parties to assure Jordan’s representation in these reports on yearly basis.
